Awarded Grants
Thu. May 29th 2014

Recently Broad River Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department was notified of being awarded two separate grants. The first is a 50/50 matching grant through NC OSFM to purchase a commercial PPE (personal protective equipment) washer & dryer for the departments gear. This Grant will match up to approximately $7400 towards the purchase. Structural Firefighting gear regardless of use must be cleaned periodically to maintain its integrity protecting the wearers life. The most recent award notification came from the AFG (Assistance to Firefighters Grant) exceeding $34,000 which the department only pays a very small portion of. This grant was requested to completely replace all the departments attack & supply hose. Hose must be service tested annually and has an expected life of 10-12 years. Much of the departments hose far exceeds the expected life and each year more and more sections fail testing. The new hose will be of a rubber component making it lighter weight for members, easier to clean, and ultimately keeping members lives safer with dependable hoses. The department has been extremely fortunate over the past few years being awarded grant funding for items such as SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus), TIC (thermal imaging camera), and an SCBA breathing air fill station. This has resulted in keeping members safe, allowed for far better training, and saving our taxpayers thousands upon thousands of dollars.
