A Message from the Fire Chief
Welcome to the Broad River Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department.
For more than 30 years, our department has proudly served the Broad River community and protected one of the most diverse and challenging response areas in Buncombe County, North Carolina. What began as a dedicated group of neighbors committed to protecting their community has grown into a modern combination fire department that continues to honor that same tradition of service.
Today, Broad River Volunteer Fire & Rescue is staffed Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., by professional firefighter/emergency medical technicians. During evenings, weekends, and holidays, our dedicated volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians continue to provide emergency response with the same commitment and professionalism our community has come to expect.
Transitioning to a combination department has allowed us to better meet the increasing demands of training, certification, equipment maintenance, inspections, and regulatory requirements at the federal, state, and local levels. Just as importantly, it has enhanced our ability to respond quickly and effectively when our community needs us most.
I am honored to serve alongside an exceptional team of career and volunteer members who generously give their time, knowledge, and dedication to protecting our neighbors. Their commitment to continual training and professional development ensures we are prepared to respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and other emergencies with skill and compassion.
We encourage you to visit your fire department, ask questions, and learn more about how you can protect your family, home, and property. Fire prevention and community preparedness are shared responsibilities, and by working together we can make our community safer for everyone.
Whether through emergency response, public education, or community outreach, Broad River Volunteer Fire & Rescue remains committed to serving with integrity, professionalism, and compassion.
Thank you for the trust and confidence you have placed in our department. It is truly an honor and privilege to serve the Broad River community.
